Walking the hall: what we check before handover

The same walk our homepage takes you on — exterior, aisle, overhead, handover — as we actually do it on site.

The front page of this site walks you into a data centre: up to the building, down the aisle, up into the containment, and out through certification. That's not a visual gimmick — it's the actual order of the final walk we do before any job is handed over. Here's what gets checked at each stop.

Outside — before anything is signed off

Handover starts with the paperwork matching the building: as-built drawings against what was actually installed, containment routes against the site drawing they were designed on. If a route moved mid-job — it happens on every real programme — the drawing moves with it, or the next contractor in inherits a ceiling void full of surprises.

The aisle — racks and terminations

  • Every port labelled to the schedule, both ends — a patch panel that doesn't match its schedule is worse than an unlabelled one, because it lies with confidence.
  • Cable slack dressed and secured — strain on a termination is a fault that shows up in month six, not at handover.
  • Rack earthing and door hardware checked — small things, but they're the difference between “installed” and “finished.”

Overhead — the containment

Fill ratios within spec, bend radius respected at every drop — the standard minimum for four-pair copper is four times the cable's outer diameter, after installation, not just while pulling — separation kept between power and data. Overhead is where rushed jobs cut corners, because it's the part nobody looks at until capacity runs out or errors start climbing.

The walk ends at a test rig, not a handshake.

Handover — proof, not promises

Every circuit tested and the results handed over as a package: Tier 1 loss, length, and polarity on every fibre link with an OLTS — the mandatory certification test — OTDR traces added where the job calls for connector-level fault location, Fluke results for copper. If a supplier hands you an OTDR bundle alone and calls the job certified, they've skipped the test that actually proves the loss budget.
