Volume labour
Data centre operatives, supplied at the volume a fit-out actually needs
When a data hall goes into fit-out, the constraint stops being design and becomes bodies: carded, inducted, insured and on site by a date that will not move.
Data centre programmes are unusual in how suddenly they need people. A shell sits quietly for months, then the fit-out window opens and the same building needs several times the headcount for a fixed number of weeks. Permanent recruitment cannot follow that curve — an eight to twelve week hire cycle produces people after the window has closed.
That mismatch is the entire reason labour supply exists in this sector, and it is the only thing we do. We hold a bench, recruit continuously, and keep operatives available so that a confirmed rate turns into people on site in days rather than months.
Volume without control is worse than no volume at all, so we manage it in waves. A first team goes on site and starts producing while the remainder complete site induction and documentation behind them. The work begins on the date it was supposed to, instead of waiting on the last file to clear.
Every operative is checked before we ever put them on a client list. Identity and right to work — including verification that a permit allows that specific work in that specific country, not merely that a permit exists. Trade competence supported by references from previous sites rather than self-declaration. Cards, tickets and medical fitness as the site requires. Written contract and insurance. The complete pack is issued to you, or loaded into your own compliance portal, before anyone travels.
Installers and cable pullers
The volume trades a fit-out consumes: containment, tray and basket, cable pulling, dressing and labelling, working to drawings and cable schedules.
Rack and stack teams
Rack build, install and alignment, equipment mounting, patching and cross-connects, cabinet organisation and white space support.
Fibre and copper specialists
Splicers and testers who can certify rather than just install — OTDR, LSPM, MTP/MPO, Cat6A certification and result packs.
Working supervisors
Team leads who work the tools and still run the paperwork: toolbox talks, RAMS, daily quality inspections, punch lists and progress reporting.
Decommissioning crews
Structured removal, asset handling and audit-ready records where a hall is being stripped rather than built.
Shift and weekend cover
Night shift, rotating patterns and weekend working — arranged in advance, and charged only against written instruction from the site.
Where we cover
UK and Ireland at short notice. Mainland Europe from one UK contract, with the posting compliance handled by us rather than by you — A1 certificates, posting declarations, Carte BTP in France, SOKA-BAU in Germany, and local requirements across the Nordics, Benelux, Iberia and Central Europe. In Asia-Pacific we hold our own crews for the Johor–Singapore corridor and mobilise European specialists in where the skills are thin.
Questions we get asked
- How many data centre operatives can you supply at once?
- Enough to crew a fit-out package, mobilised in waves rather than all at once. Tell us the headcount and the date and we will tell you honestly what lands on day one and what follows in week two — we would rather lose the enquiry than promise a roster that does not arrive.
- How fast can operatives be on site?
- In the UK, typically within a week of a confirmed rate. In Europe, the posting paperwork is the pacing item and we begin it the day the rate is agreed. We do not wait for a purchase order to start compliance.
- What checks are done before an operative is offered?
- Identity and right to work, with the permit conditions read rather than filed. Trade competence backed by site references. Cards, tickets and medicals to the site's requirement. Written contract and insurance. If any of the four is missing, the operative is not offered.
- Do operatives arrive inducted?
- They arrive with everything the induction will ask for already submitted, so induction is a formality rather than a discovery exercise. Where a client runs its own portal, we populate it directly instead of sending loose files.
- Can you cover night shift and weekends?
- Yes. Shift patterns are agreed in the proposal rather than negotiated later, and weekend or overtime rates are charged only where the site has instructed the work in writing.
- Do you charge a fee if we take someone on permanently?
- No. There is no introduction fee and no transfer fee after a fair qualifying period. If an operative fits your business better than ours, that is a good outcome, not an invoice.
- Who do we deal with day to day?
- One named coordinator for the life of the project, reachable outside office hours — not a different account manager each week.
